Mr Driver also thanked Father Andrew Appiah of St Mary’s Church, parade marshal John Clarke, and historian Stephen Nunn.

Children from Maldon Primary School and St Francis Primary School as well as the All Saints’ and St Mary’s Church choirs and legacy brass attended.

Glenn Mayes DL, wing commander and chairman of the Royal British Legion, thanked Maldon Town Council’s mayor, councillors and support team as well as civic leaders.

He added: “Sincere thanks are also owed to the veterans, cadet services, other uniform services and community groups who took part in the parade.

“Especially the Essex Caledonian Pipes and Drums who made the parade so special, and not least the community – schools, charities and local businesses – who turned out in such numbers to mark the Act of Remembrance and joined us in laying 60 wreaths.”
