A MAN who jumped out of a second-floor window while holding a knife during a psychotic episode has been given a suspended jail term.

Elliot Yeaman, 26, had taken ADHD medication when he started hallucinating and thinking someone else was in his flat with him.

A member of the public who saw Yeaman jump from the window phoned the police who attended the scene to arrest him, Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard.

Yeaman, who has learning difficulties as well as several other conditions including PTSD and dissociative personality disorder, was also ordered to pay £110 in costs and a £154 surcharge.

Probation officer Caroline Atkinson told the magistrates’ bench the medication reduces Yeaman’s loneliness for a couple of hours but then causes him to behave in a psychotic way.

Yeaman admitted one charge of possessing a knife in a public place.

Daniel Simister, mitigating, said: “He did not take the knife out of his property deliberately to do anything specific.

“There is no suggestion he wanted to use it for the purposes of threatening anybody.

“I anticipate he has learned from his mistakes

“There are a lot of issues he is addressing with he support of his mother who is here at court.”

Magistrates sentenced Yeaman, of Embleton Close, Maldon, to a four-month jail term, suspended for one year.
