A Maldon woman has been disqualified from driving after nearly hitting a pedestrian.

On August 17, police officers came across Corinna Stringer, 43, who was driving a Ford Fiesta along Market Hill.

She caught the officers’ attention after reversing into a mini roundabout, and they signalled her to stop.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday, Stringer continued to drive, exceeding 30mph in a 20mph zone and nearly hitting a pedestrian.

She was arrested and a roadside breath analysis revealed 115 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml, exceeding the legal limit of 35.

At the police station, a second test resulted in a reading of 85 microgrammes.

Stringer, of The Roothings, Heybridge, who appeared before the court without representation, seemed shaken, and nearly broke down in tears when asked to speak.

The court heard she handed a written statement to the bench as she admitted to one count of driving a motor vehicle when the alcohol level was above the limit.

She said: “I don’t have much recollection from the time when I was pulled out of the car.”

The bench called Stringer’s standard of driving “extremely poor” and disqualified her from driving for 18 months.

She was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £110 in costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
