Saltmarsh Coast Walking Festival offers routes around Maldon

BOOKINGS are now open for the 2025 Saltmarsh Coast Walking Festival, offering routes around Maldon.

The festival, which has been recognised by both the Observer and BBC Countryfile as one of the country's top walking festivals, will feature more than 35 guided walks.

Routes will cover both the coast and countryside, allowing participants to explore the Maldon district's scenic beauty.

The event will also see storytelling social media influencer James Lawrence, known online as ‘Man About Country,’ leading a walk around Goldhanger.

The festival will take place from September 26 to October 5.

Councillor James Burrell-Cook, chair of the Maldon District Tourism Group, said: "After a successful festival last year, as well as mini festivals in winter and spring, we are delighted to be hosting the Saltmarsh Walking Festival again this year in partnership with Maldon District Council.

"Over the last two years, we’ve built a fantastic walking community, and we’d love to see it continue to grow.

"It’s lovely to see familiar faces at each festival, which just goes to show how wonderful they are."

Richard Siddall, leader of Maldon District Council, said: "We are so proud that the BBC Countryfile programme has recognised our festival as one of ‘Britain’s Best Walking Festivals.’

"This accolade follows its inclusion in the Observer newspaper’s list of the ten best walking festivals for 2024.

"The event continues to offer both visitors and residents an excellent opportunity to experience the distinctive environment and heritage of our part of Essex.

"We sincerely appreciate the dedication of our partners and volunteers, whose efforts are essential to the success of this festival, and we look forward to welcoming you all to the festival this year."

The free festival is funded by a £10,000 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund,

There will also be evening entertainment and special guest appearances.
