MALDON'S clean air scheme has been shortlisted for a national environmental award.

Maldon District Council’s ‘Voluntary Clean Air Route – Market Hill Maldon’ is in the running for the New Initiative Award (Air) at the Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025.

The council will find out if it has won at a ceremony on Wednesday, September 17.

Councillor Richard Siddall, leader of Maldon District Council, said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for this award.

"The Market Hill Clean Air Route is a bold and proactive step towards cleaner air and a healthier environment for everyone in Maldon.

"It shows what can be achieved when we work together with our community to tackle environmental challenges head-on."

The scheme encourages drivers to use alternative routes and choose active travel options to protect air quality, protect heritage assets, and improve public health.

It reflects the council’s wider commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community-led action.

The Environmental Monitoring Awards celebrate organisations across the UK making notable improvements in environmental monitoring and air quality.

The council attributed the shortlisting to the dedication and vision of the officers, councillors, and residents who have supported the scheme.
