A JOYFUL, affordable, and compact café, Peaberries is a stylish star in Burnham High Street.

Visiting Burnham on a mostly sunny Thursday at the end of August, the area was full of families and the occasional tourist asking for directions.

Peaberries has set itself up well with both its colourful facade and smart posters for homemade lemonade at only £3.50.

Promotional - The homemade lemonade poster in the cafe's window caught me eye (Image: Newsquest) That advertisement made me want to go in, and a few minutes later a cyclist clad in Lycra and gear also enquired about the offer.

I chose to buy a strawberries and cream layer cake which was only £3.50, just as affordable as mainstream coffee chains, as I thought it would perfectly compliment my homemade strawberry lemonade.

Choice - There was a wide variety of cakes and pastries with varying price points (Image: Newsquest) Art - It was lovely seeing art being on sale (Image: Newsquest) I was right as the lemonade – still and not fizzy – had sliced delicious strawberries which worked with the equally fresh strawberries cut up on the cake with its characteristic crunchy top layer.

I sat in a corner while another woman spoke to the owner and observed the counter which sold everything from hand roasted coffee to granola yoghurt to Dengie Honey.

Recommended - This is the exact type of lemonade you would want to buy at home (Image: Newsquest)Different - A layer cake is a nice change to a traditional sponge (Image: Newsquest) At only £7, this would be a perfect place for one of those days you need a pick-me-up and with outdoor seating and rooms up above this is a fantastic community café.
