A 36-strong German male voice choir is set to perform in Maldon as part of a UK tour.

Ars Musica, from Thuringia in central Germany, will take to the stage at St Mary’s Church in Maldon on Saturday, July 5, at 7.30pm during the Maldon Festival.

James Burrell-Cook, chairman of the festival’s board of trustees, said: "It is a real treat for the Maldon Festival to welcome the choir all the way from Germany, where it has been shaped and perfected over half a century.

"Ars Musica is sure to dazzle and delight the audience with its powerful and beautifully crafted sound."

The concert is supported by the British Embassy in Berlin.

Mr Burrell-Cook said: "Having the backing of His Majesty’s Ambassador to Germany, His Excellency Andrew Mitchell, adds to the prestige of a performance we are privileged to host."

The choir gathers monthly for weekend rehearsals in Suhl and often raises funds through performances to support social projects in Thuringia and beyond.

Tickets are available from Maldon Books, on the door, or online at maldonfestival.co.uk/programme.

Other festival highlights include the Harmer-Dehqani Duo on Thursday and the Maldon Orchestra on Friday.
