The mayor of Maldon has praised a farm for its "diversity of activities" after a visit this week.

Andrew Lay visited Lauriston Farm, in Goldhanger, which is a "biodynamic, community-owned farm" with Shetland cattle and North Ronaldsay sheep that "graze on the saltmarsh and sea meadows".

The farm has been "certified biodynamic organic" since 2010, meaning it practises "a gentle form of holistic, chemical-free farming which creates a supportive atmosphere and increases the health of the soils, plants, animals and people of all abilities".

Mr Lay was given a tour of the farm by director Spencer Christy, who showed him the different jobs done by co-workers.

The mayor then had a farm-cooked lunch by Mascha, Lily and Louis from the farm kitchen.

Spencer said: "The mayor commented how impressed he was with the diversity of activities at Lauriston Farm."

Lauriston Farm will be starting its weekly Veg Bag deliveries in and around the Maldon area again from June.

It is also at Maldon Market in Butt Lane Car Park every Thursday from 9am to 1pm.

Here, it sells beef, lamb, mutton, eggs, vegetables and woolly crafts.
