A two-month campaign encouraging people to donate unwanted furniture launches this week.
Essex County Council, alongside Maldon District Council and four other local councils, will run the "Make Space, Not Waste" campaign throughout April and May to reduce items being sent to landfill.
Residents are urged to donate unwanted furniture instead of throwing it away to help people in need and generate funds for essential charity services.
A directory has been added to the Love Essex website, making it quick and easy for people to find charities and organisations that will take their items.
Some charities will even collect items from your doorstep, free of charge.
Peter Schwier, chairman of the Essex Waste Partnership and councillor responsible for environment, waste reduction and recycling at Essex County Council, said: "We believe that by making it easier for residents to find information about where to donate their unwanted furniture, we can significantly reduce the amount of items being thrown away and support our local communities.
"Our new directory is a valuable resource for anyone looking to make a positive impact by donating their items to those who can use them."
The campaign also shares tips to maximise the chance of items being reused, like keeping the fire label on upholstered furniture.
Councillor Richard Siddall, leader of Maldon District Council, said: "We are delighted to be supporting this initiative which is a fantastic opportunity for residents to declutter their homes while supporting their local community.
"By donating unwanted furniture, we can reduce waste, protect our environment, and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need."
