MALDON MP Sir John Whittingdale has said the town’s increase in size helps bring new facilities even though it “is not popular with everyone”.

Mr Whittingdale attended the official opening of Limebrook Primary School on Friday morning.

The school is part of the South Maldon Garden Suburb development and opened to pupils in September.

Sir John said: “Maldon is growing very quickly – that is not popular with everyone, but one thing it does bring is new facilities like this new school.”

He continued: “Maldon has had some major housing developments, one of which is here and another is in Heybridge – it is likely that there will be more to come.

“I have always taken the view that we do need more housing but it has to be matched by the infrastructure – education and schooling are just one element of that.

“When we do have a big new development, it can bring with it something like Limebrook Primary, which is a really impressive state-of-the-art new building which I think will be hugely popular.”

Tony Ball, Essex County Council’s cabinet member for education excellence, skills and training, said the trust which runs the school showed it would be part of the community.

He said: “I was very impressed [with the trust].

“What is interesting is how they have delivered on what they said and how they are going to engage with the Limebrook community.”
