When visiting Maldon for its beautiful Promenade Park, quaint high street steeped in history, and vibrant community scene, the White Horse Inn is a perfect spot to enjoy a bite to eat.

Hosting live music every Friday, the venue is nestled in the high street with large white panelled doors and white brick walls, with flowers and potted plants accented with fairy lights bracketing the entrance and windows.

After stepping into the historic coach’s entrance, visitors are in an inside-outside seating area with elegant wicker outdoor chairs, hanging lights and picture frames on a painted wall. It seems like the perfect place to dine in the summer.

Patrons can peruse the menu of nibbling pots, small plates and antipasti boards.

The special White Horse Cheeseboard features celery, pickled onions, pickled cornichons, marinated olives, sundried tomatoes, and chutneys, while the cheese options include Blue Stilton, French Brie, Applewood Smoked, and the mysterious Innkeeper’s Choice.

Elegant - The interior is classic, cosy and tasteful Elegant - The interior is classic, cosy and tasteful (Image: Newsquest) The big plate options included Mexican chilli con carne, honey and mustard roasted ham, whiskey glazed pork belly with whiskey and black putting sauce, and pub classics beer battered fish and chips, toad in the hole, and my chosen dish of sausage and mash.

Service was friendly and easy, with a relaxed and joyful atmosphere of children tucking into lunch with their grandparents and one or two other couples enjoying their drinks.

Delicious - The White Horse Inn's sausages and mash was a refined version of the pub classic Delicious - The White Horse Inn's sausages and mash was a refined version of the pub classic (Image: Newsquest) After a brief wait, the sausages and mash dish was served.

It was presented with a refined touch of cress and crispy onions, with three large sausages glistening with onion gravy, autumn greens and root vegetables, and herb butter mashed potatoes offering a delightful variety of colour on the plate.

The sausages, sourced from a local butcher over the road, were succulent and soft.

The mash was delightfully smooth and full of flavour which paired perfectly with the onion gravy and greens.

The onion flakes offered a contrast in texture, while the vegetables added more softness and earthy flavours.

If diners are searching for an elegant spot to eat with plenty of delicious food options, the White Horse Inn is the place to go.
