Recognise any familiar faces from Powys life during 1980?

Today we invite readers to join us on a trip through time to 1980 as we share a collection of pictures from the start of a new decade.

It is a decade which has received some criticism by modern day historians.

However the decade gave us people looking inward at DNA and outward to the far reaches of space.

Among the inventions are the internet, DNA profiling, the nicotine patch, MIR Space Station, and the endoscopy capsule.

The Voyager 1 probe confirmed he existence of Janus, a moon of Saturn. Mafioso Angelo Bruno was assassinated in Philadelphia and U.S. President Jimmy Carter announced that the United States would boycott the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

The UEFA Euro 1980 began hosted by Italy. West Germany would go on to win while the UN Security Council calls for South Africa to free Nelson Mandela from prison.

Unemployment in the UK hit a 44-year high of nearly 1.9 million while the the Marlborough diamond was stolen in London.

Meanwhile life in Powys continued as ever as we invite readers to join us in venturing back through time to the start of a new decade.
