IF there is one sign that spring is underway in Colchester, it’s the sighting of baby goats at High Woods Country Park.

The weather is certainly not particularly spring-like at the moment given the biting winds – and occasionally heavy downpours – we have experienced the past week.

But that has not deterred our camera club photographers from getting out and about to picture the adorable baby goats who have been soaking in some of the rare glimpses of sunlight at High Woods Country Park.

Shiela Winright captured some of the pictures on Thursday.

Reintroducing goats at High Woods country park has been part of Colchester Council’s restoration of a wildflower meadow at Farthing Bottom Field.

The council has asked visitors who come to see the goats not to approach or feed the animals, or walk dogs through the field.

Late last year, the Gazette reported how a new collaboration involving Essex University researchers will involve the use of sensors used to track the eating habits of the animals.

As springs rolls into summer, more goats are expected to be introduced to the site.
