A MUNDON man is gearing up to release his 16th studio record.
Richard Townend makes music under the band moniker, The Mighty BossCats, and the group’s new record, PHOTOSHOOT is out May 4.
To celebrate the digital release of the record in May, The Mighty BossCats will be performing at Headgate Theatre, in Chapel Street, the same night.
Richard is an accomplished musician who started his career after studying at the Leeds College of Music and has built a career as a singer-songwriter and guitarist.
During his early career, he initially played for acts like comedian Ronnie Corbett’s band, 1970s artist Dana, Tony Christie, and more.
However, after launching his career and embarking on a 20-year hiatus, his passion for music was reignited in 2008.
Subsequently, in 2011, Richard released an album in 2011 and formed The Mighty BossCats – starting a project where he has written over 300 songs and 15 albums so far.
A spokesman for the band described The Mighty BossCats’s sound.
They said: “With a versatile style and a musical vibe reminiscent of Dire Straits, JJ Cale, and Chris Rea, Townend has a unique touch with the guitar, creating a captivating blend of modern contemporary Americana music.”
“His influence extends nationally and internationally, as evidenced by the recording of his 12th album live in Moscow.”
The band will be touring Kazakhstan, in Central Asia, in June.
Alongside gigs, there is a new line-up for the band including Matt Gillam on bass, drummer Mark Hall.
