THE date for this year’s edition of an annual running event in Burnham has been announced.

The Burnham-on-Crouch 10k run will take place on October 13 and is sponsored by the Burnham Waters development.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Burnham-on-Crouch and Dengie Hundred, it will start at 10am from the Riverside Park.

Profits from the event will go to a series of charities being supported by Rotary, including the Essex Air Ambulance, Little Havens Hospice and the Sick Children’s Trust.

Rotary president Neil Yates said: “The 10k run is a flat, single-lap, super-scenic course, which is a great way to get active, have some fun and to raise funds for some really worthwhile, local causes.

“You don’t need to be a serious athlete. There is plenty of time to get a few friends together and to get in a bit of training over the summer months!”

Ian Holloway, project director at Burnham Waters, added: “We are absolutely delighted to be supporting the Rotary Club 10k again this year. It’s a great event that really brings everyone together and showcases all that is on offer in Burnham-on-Crouch.

“It is so important to keep active, whatever your age and we hope that we may even have a few new residents from Burnham Waters opting to take part this autumn.”

Last year the event raised more than £9,000 for charity, in addition to that raised by runners.

The 10k is popular with runners, with its route offering views of the coastal paths on the sea wall of the Dengie peninsula as well as picturesque trails.

Runners are encouraged to obtain sponsorship to raise funds for good causes, or to just join and have fun.

Participation in the Burnham on Crouch 10k is £20 per person if booked in advance, or £25 on the day. To find out more and to book your place, visit atwevents.co.uk/e/burnham-on-crouch-10k-9183.
