MALDON mayor Andrew Lay has announced nominations are now open for the town’s community awards for 2024.

Residents have the chance to nominate a person of any age.

It could be for a single act of kindness, a long-lasting battle against the odds or for their inspirational community work.

Nominations are being sought for the following categories:

  • Art, Culture and Heritage Award
  • Best Business Contribution to the Community
  • Carer of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year
  • Community Impact Award
  • Educator of the Year
  • Long Service Volunteer Award
  • Sporting Volunteer Award
  • Young Achieve of the Year
  • Town Mayor’s award for Community Service

The awards recognise the efforts of individuals or groups who contribute to the town of Maldon, as well as the work and voluntary assistance undertaken within the community.

Individuals, groups, charities, sports and social clubs, community associations and churches are among those eligible.

Also up for inclusion are associations supporting people with disabilities, schools and youth organisations.

The town mayor and council representatives will meet to consider all nominations.

They will then choose ambassadors for the town, recognising those with outstanding commitment and whose contribution improves life for residents and visitors.

All are invited to a presentation evening that is due to be held on Monday, April 22, at the town hall.

Maldon mayor Andrew Lay said: "The community awards are an important part of the town council's work recognising the people who dedicate themselves towards others.

"It is a great opportunity to shine a light on some truly remarkable people.

"The presentation event will be a great night to honour the nominees and the award winners .

"It is also an opportunity to meet and discuss local issues with the councillors for all parts of town.”

The deadline for nominations is March 15 and nomination forms are available on the town council’s website, maldontowncouncil.gov.uk/community-awards.

They are also available from Maldon Town Hall on Market Hill, or by phoning 01621 857373.
