PLANS for the construction of a commercial vehicle MOT bay and customer parking have been approved by Maldon District Council.
The proposals were first submitted in November 2023, for G B Jones and Smith Motor Engineering Unit in Spital Road.
The application form reads: “MOT testing of Class 7 commercial vehicles weighing between 3,000kg and 3,500kg the definition of which is generally large vans.
“The MOT bay will be fitted with a ramp, without a below ground inspection pit, and rolling road with a brake testing area.
“Only MOT work will be carried out within the proposed new building.”
An Essex Highways spokesman said they had no objection to the proposal.
They added: “The proposal is accessed from a private section of West Station Yard and as submitted, is not considered detrimental to highway safety, capacity or efficiency.”
