A TRIAL date has been set for a Maldon driver who is accused of dangerous driving and damaging an electric bicycle worth nearly £3,000.

Paul Stevens, of Ben Cobey Avenue, Maldon, has denied attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, driving a car dangerously, and causing criminal damage during an incident which took place in August last year.

Stevens, 27, is alleged to have driven his Peugeot Partner 600 dangerously in Holloway Road, Heybridge.

He is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Simon Bailey and destroying his electric bicycle – a Lapierre OverVolt, worth £2,900 – during the same incident.

Addressing Stevens at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, Judge Jamie Sawyer scheduled a trial in February 2025.

Over the next year, preparations will begin for the trial which will involve submitting evidence to the prosecution before the proceedings begin.

Judge Sawyer told Stevens said: “I’ve made certain directions today about dates. If you fail to attend when there’s a pre-trial hearing, then a warrant can be issued.

“If you don’t attend when listed for trial the jury can consider the case in your absence.”
