MORRIS dancers drew crowds of visitors in Maldon for a Boxing Day treat.

The popular Morris Dancers of Maldon put on a special performance at Hythe Quay on the day after Christmas for their annual dance.

Meeting at midday, dancers from the Greenjackets group danced in the traditional Cotswold style.

The Maldon Greenjackets was formed in 1988 originally with all male dancers but has since been performing as a mixed group.

A spokesman for the group said: “Our name was taken from a comment made when a previous side folded and some of the members decided to form up again under a new name to show that they were still ‘Alive & Kicking’.”

A spokesman for the Maldon Greenjackets said: "It was a good day for dancing - not too cold and dry so plenty of people were out and about who stopped to watch, which makes it worthwhile for us.

"It's lovely to have an appreciative audience. We are always looking for new members.

"If anyone is interested in joining us, our next practice is Tuesday, January 9, at 8pm in the United Reformed Church Hall on Market Hill."
