UPGRADES set to be made to Maldon’s streetlights have been welcomed by the district council.
Maldon will be one of the last areas in Essex to have its streetlights changed to more energy-efficient LED lights.
The lights are expected to be installed from the end of January to the end of March.
The scheme from Essex County Council began in Essex in 2016 and will be complete in 2024.
The new lights are set to reduce the cost for taxpayers and will last longer than the existing bulbs.
This means the lights will also reduce maintenance costs as fewer faults are expected.
Richard Siddall, leader of Maldon District Council welcomed the news that Essex County Council Highways will be upgrading streetlights across the Maldon District.
He said: “I am delighted that Essex County Council Highways will be working to replace the older style streetlights with more energy efficient LED ones.
“Having more energy-efficient LED streetlights will save around 75% of energy compared to the previous lights, and they should last up to 20 years.
“This will not only be more cost-effective but will also lower carbon emissions - helping to reducing the District’s carbon footprint.”
