HUNDREDS of war veterans and members of the public gathered together to remember soldiers who died in the line of duty.

The High Street in Maldon was closed on Sunday for the safety of the many who paid their tributes at the War Memorial.

Managed by Maldon Town Council and the Royal British Legion, there was a wreath-laying service and a march from former and current members of the service.

There was an emotional Remembrance Sunday service led by Father Andrew Appiah from St Marys Church.

The Kohima Epitaph was read by representatives from The Plume Academy and Maldon Court Preparatory School.

More than 60 volunteers attached 5000 poppies to the Moot Hall in Maldon in a drape of poppies designed by Wendy Munnion.

Town Mayor Andrew Lay said: “It was pleasing to see the town's community gather together to honour the sacrifice made by others at the service in the centre of the town.
