Burnham Surgery Save our Surgery protest march

Burnham residents marched from the current Burnham Surgery in Foundry Lane to the possible new site at the Burnham Waters development off the B1010 Maldon Road.

The journey is about a four-mile round trip by foot, walking along the side of busy main roads.

The Save Our Surgery group was set up by residents who are against the possible move of the surgery to the outside of the town centre.

Although “no formal proposals” have been made according to the NHS, the idea was shared in a leaked email from the NHS which was shared on social media.

Burnham on Crouch town councillor for the south ward, Nick Skeens said: “Around 200 Burnham residents took to the streets in a march protesting against proposals to move Burnham’s centrally-located surgery to the Burnham Waters development on western outskirts of town.

“The march was organised by Save Our Surgery, a local group set up by volunteers.

“This may be the biggest protest march that Burnham has ever seen – though we are told similar protests took place in the 1970s, calling for Nuclear Disarmament at the height of the Cold War.”
