CONCERNS are growing following plans for a controversial development in a Maldon village.

Plans submitted for the development of 25 new homes off of Head Street, in Goldhanger, have caused widespread concern.

Witham MP Dame Priti Patel has met representatives from Goldhanger Parish Council and residents in the village to discuss their opposition to plans for the new housing development.

Residents disagree with the suitability of the site and the impact a development on this scale will have.

The site is also outside of the settlement boundary and should therefore be protected from development.

Dame Priti said: “Goldhanger is a small village with poor transport connections and very few local amenities. This site is in an unsuitable and unsustainable location and huge numbers of local residents have raised concerns and objections.

“In other parts of Maldon district there is new housing in more sustainable sites, such as the Westcombe Park development at Heybridge.

“This development in this location is not necessary and I will continue to support residents to raise their objections and press Maldon District Council to refuse this application.”
