AN Essex pest control company is working to fight against bed bugs following the fear of them spreading.

Purleigh-based Pest ID has shared some top tips amid reports of a bed bug outbreak in Paris.

Ahead of the autumn half=term break, advice is being issued to holidaymakers on ways to protect themselves and minimise the spread of bed bugs.

A spokesman for Pest ID said: “Bed bugs can quickly turn a dream holiday into a nightmare, but with the right precautions even with the latest wave of French bed bugs, these pests can be effectively avoided.”

The main points from the exterminators are to inspect your accommodation, keep luggage off the bed, wash and dry clothes on high heat, travel with bed bug-proof luggage, use bed bug monitors, pack a flashlight and read reviews and ask questions about pest control measures when booking accommodation.

A spokesman said: “By following these precautions, you can significantly reduce the risk of encountering bed bugs during your autumn half-term holiday.

“If you do discover bed bugs in your accommodation, contact the management immediately and consider seeking professional pest control services to address the issue.”
