A POPULAR annual event is all set for its upcoming event with a new unique theme.

The ‘Steampunk Essextraordinare’ at the Museum of Power, in Langford, is expecting yet another busy event with this year’s theme of 'Steampunk under the sea'.

Visitors have been asked to dress in their maritime finery “to experience the retro futuristic wonders of a world of submarine steampunk”.

There will be music, dancers, a steampunk market and lots more for steampunk enthusiasts to enjoy.

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction inspired by 19th Century steam-powered machinery.

A spokesman for the Museum of Power said: “It's a day of extraordinary Steampunk madness with entertainment, tea duelling, parasol duelling, teapot racing, food, drink, Steampunk stalls, a competition for the best '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' Steampunk hat and more besides.

“The miniature railway will be running, the Astaria model village will be open, the Steam Pump Tea Room will be serving delicious food and beverages, and the Crafty Cabin will also be open in the pavilion on the main field.

“Please be aware that we have had to up our price on the Miniature Train since 1st June to £2 for adults, but the price of £1 will remain for children. You can also purchase a family ticket for the train for two adults and up to three children for £5.

“The museum will also be partially closed due to refurbishment work currently being undertaken which is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other donors.”

The event is on Sunday, September 24, from 10am to 4pm at the Museum of Power in Hatfield Road, Langford.

Entries is £8 for adults, £7 concessions, £5 for children aged five to 15 and children under five years old go free.
