DONATIONS from businesses in Maldon helped a nursing group raise for than £2,000 for a cancer charity.

A fundraiser organised by Mike Riglin Nursing was held at the care company's base at West Station Yard to raise money for Sarcoma UK.

They organised a coffee and cake day along with a raffle, which raised £2,035 with the help of Maldon businesses.

Nursing staff held the fundraiser after Lisa Bannister-Clarke, the wife of a care coordinator, was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer in April.

She is now set to start radiotherapy after having major surgery in May.

Lisa attended the event and drew the raffle at the end of the day.

Her partner said: "We would like to thank all the local businesses for supporting us by donating prizes for our raffle, as well as the community who bought raffle tickets and donated money to Sarcoma UK.

“Lisa is my wife, and I would like to thank the Mike Riglin Nursing team, where I work in the office, for supporting me over the last eight months whilst dealing with Lisa’s diagnosis, and for hosting this event to raise money for Sarcoma UK.

“Here at Mike Riglin Nursing we hold at least one charity event per year. This year we decided to raise money for Sarcoma UK to help people like Lisa who are going through treatment for this rare cancer.

“We are very thankful to all the people that visited us on the day to show their support. We had a large turnout from the local community who enjoyed tea, coffee, and homemade cakes.”

Organisations which supported the fundraiser by donating raffle prizes included Wenlocks, Soultasia, Curl Up and Dry in Heybridge, TC2, Tao Retreat, Wetherspoons, the Museum of Power, the Queen Victoria, Perrywoods Garden Centre, Oakhouse Bar, Blackwater Leisure Centre, Mighty Oak, Meatline, Maldon Salt, Upstairs Downstairs, Wicks Manor, Dilly’s Florist and Stepfields Snooker Club in Witham.
