HUNDREDS of people visited Maldon to take part and spectate in a popular annual triathlon.

Participants took part in a 1.5km tidal river swim, an 86km road cycle and a 20km run starting at Maldon Promenade Park on Saturday, September 2.

The ride took athletes along the scenic roads of the Dengie peninsula, through the villages of Latchingdon, Tillingham, Steeple and Mayland.

The running route went along the sea wall and looped around Promenade Park and the swim started next to the stature of Byrhtnoth and headed towards Northey Island.

Mike Jubb, the head of events at Active Training World, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the triathlon community to be able to race at such a unique venue.

“The tidal river swim provides a great challenge for all the competitors, safe in the knowledge that they are under the watchful eye of the water safety team.

“The bike meanders around the beautiful lanes of the Dengie peninsular and the event is finished off with a run along the scenic coastal path, looping back around to the finish in the thriving Promenade Park.

“ATW would like to thank both the Maldon Council and the Harbour Commission for their support in making this event possible.”
