A NEW family-friendly dog show saw more than 150 dog lovers and their canine friends getting involved in a range of competitions.

Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome hosted its first ever Wings ‘n’ Wags dog show, which proved to be a great success.

There were more than 80 entries into the new competition.

There were various prizes from the Best Sopwith Pup to the Oldie.

Alongside best in show, there was also an award for Stow’s scruffiest hound.

Winners received medals, ribbons and prizes supplied by local furry-friendly firms Francis James and Partners Chartered Accountants, Gladwell’s Pet and Country Supplies and Maldon Salts, much to the delight of the dog owners and supporters.

The event was a fundraiser to support the work to preserve and protect the historic site which has the largest collection of Royal Flying Corps buildings in the world.

It was the base for B flight of 37 Squadron (Home Defence), Royal Flying Corps, which was tasked to protect London from raids by German Zeppelin airships and Gotha heavy bombers.

Members of the historic site regularly welcome dogs on to the site, hosting popular dog-friendly days on the first and last Friday of every month.

Stow Maries bookings officer Jackie Winney said: “To see so many new visitors to our site was brilliant.

"We’re great fans of dogs here at Stow, and this event was born out of our successful Dog-Friendly Fridays.
