AN annual country show was a success as visitors travelled to Burnham to view historic vehicles and watch participants in horse and dog shows.

The Wheels, Hooves and Paws event was held at the Elmwood Equestrian Centre.

The show began as a historic vehicle and horse show and has since grown into a small country show.

There was a range of old vehicles on display as well as horse and dog shows.

There were more than 30 stalls selling a huge range of items as well as arts and crafts.

There were also bouncy castles and children’s games for youngsters to enjoy.

Organisers thanked the public and everyone involved in the event for their support.

A spokesman for the show said: “The idea of a show was born out of a need to raise money for church repairs, in Althorne.

“Unfortunately, Covid came along and put paid to that. Then three years ago the churches of St Andrew's Althorne, All Saints', Creeksea and St Lawrence and All Saints', Steeple, got together to develop a joint show, which has proved very successful.

“The emphasis is still on old vehicles of all kinds but this year we had a horse show in an adjacent field and a dog show in a central arena, which proved very popular with competitors and the public alike.

“We were very fortunate that the weather was kind. Rain was threatened but apart from a few sharp showers early on, it turned out to be a lovely day.

“We would like to thank Anne Hull of Elmwood Equestrian Centre, Pat Charleton who ran the horse show and dog show, the volunteers from the three churches, the Eccentrics, for organising the vehicle displays and all the businesses that supported this event.

“Lastly, we would like to thank all the people that attended the show, we hope you had a great day and will support us in the future.”
