A POPULAR market is set to make a return this autumn following the retirement of the previous market operator.
Maldon Market is returning to Butt Lane car park this October under the operation of Suffolk Market Events.
The organiser runs successful markets in Essex and Suffolk which include Colchester, Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury.
Former market organiser Terry Frost made the decision to retire which put a stop to the previous market.
The revival of the market comes through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Maldon District Council bosses hope the market will see an increase in stallholders, boost the diversity of produce on offer and increase footfall in Maldon.
Council leader Richard Siddall said: “I am delighted that as part of Maldon District Council’s £1million investment plan through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, that support has been agreed to revitalise Maldon town centre market, based in Butt Lane.
“I would like thank Terry Frost, who was a long-standing and popular figure at the market and send him good wishes for his well-earned retirement.
“I know the revitalised market will be a great success. I am sure residents and visitors to the town will welcome the opportunity to visit and shop at the revitalised market”.
Suffolk Market Events welcome farmers, plant growers, foragers, fishermen, flower growers, jam and chutney makers, cooks and more to trade at their events.
The business has earned numerous awards since it was founded by husband and wife duo Justine and Alex Paul in 2008.
New market operator Alex said: “Suffolk Market Events is delighted to be working with Maldon District Council to relaunch the town centre's weekly market at Butt Lane.
“We are aware that a successful and popular town market can add real vibrancy to a town centre, and we look forward to working with all the local partners in Maldon to achieve this.”
The first date set for the markets return has been confirmed as Thursday, October 12.
