OBJECTIONS have already been raised by residents following the submission of plans for a development of almost 300 homes.

A full planning application has been submitted for a residential development of 281 homes on land east of Broad Street Green Road in Heybridge.

In the design and access statement by housebuilding company Charles Church, the plans include affordable homes and bungalows.

A total of 546 car parking spaces have been proposed for the site to accompany 169 market homes and 112 social, affordable or intermediate-rent homes.

The plans include 17 one-bedroom homes, 60 two-bedroom homes, 67 three-bedroom homes and 25 four-or-more-bedroom homes as market housing.

In the social, affordable or intermediate rent category there are proposals for 14 one-bedroom homes, 11 two-bedroom, 21 three-bedroom and four houses with four or more bedrooms.

The plans for the 24.7-acre site have received a total of 11 public objections so far, with many claiming there are inaccuracies within the plans and some raising concerns about the impact on health services.

One resident who objected to the plans said: “Why is Maldon Council even considering this application? Absolutely no way should any more houses be built in the Maldon area.

“The roads are unable to take any more traffic, the schools are full and trying to get to see a GP is impossible as they are oversubscribed. We need more green space not houses.”

Another resident said: “Road infrastructure is not adequate to meet this ongoing development.

“Wildlife and natural habitat is already being significantly affected by existing housing and 281 additional dwellings will only reduce the biodiversity in the local area.

“Air quality in the local area will be affected with additional traffic and commuting.”

The developer says it aims to add value to local areas and said: “We often help to fund new roads, community centres, doctors’ surgeries, schools, green open spaces and children’s play areas.

“Charles Church are proud to help towards sustainable facilities and amenities that benefit local people across the UK, not just residents on our developments.”

Heybridge Parish Council is set to discuss the plans at an upcoming meeting on Monday, August 7.

Maldon District Council will have the final say on the plans.
