A DRIVER and their passengers "had a lucky escape" after a car crashed on its side and burst into flames.

Two crews from Maldon Fire Station rushed to Hyde Lane in Bicknacre on Sunday night after receiving reports of a car fire.

When crews arrived at the scene they found a vehicle which was on its side and fully alight, having burst into flames.

A spokesman for Maldon Fire Station said: “The occupants of this vehicle had a lucky escape after both fire engines from Maldon were sent to Hyde Lane, Bicknacre last night after we received reports of a car fire.

“After having left the road, the vehicle was found on its side fully alight when crews arrived.
