Mr Siddall said: “I am delighted to have been elected as leader of Maldon District Council for this municipal year.

“I am keen to promote the good work of the council and the services we provide to residents and businesses. With our corporate plan in place for the next four years, we need to establish our priorities so that we can deliver on our pledge to put quality of life first.

“At the May election the voters of Maldon produced a council where there was no overall control. Over the past few weeks, the members of the council have worked hard to come up with a council that reflects the results of the election.

“As the largest number of council members elected were independent, it seemed appropriate for us to form the leadership of the council. We have worked with the other groups leaders to create an informal but inclusive approach so that together we can meet the needs of the district.

“I look forward to working with all of my fellow councillors, no matter what their political views, for the benefit of the whole community and ensure we maximise opportunities for the whole of the Maldon district.”
