MODERN and classic aircraft will soar through the sky at a popular event when it returns to a historic airfield.

Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, in Hackmans Lane, Purleigh, is hosting an event showcasing a huge range of aircraft and vehicles.

The Wings and Wheels Parade will be hosting classic cars from the 20th Century which include Aston Martins, Morgans, Corvettes, Morris Minors and Norton Owners Clubs.

The event is a major fundraiser which supports work to preserve the First World War aerodrome.

Ian Flint, chief executive officer of the charitable trust which runs the heritage site, said: “Last year was a record breaker and in 2023 we hope to welcome even more people from across East Anglia and London to this unique site, filled with history and excitement.

“A great mix of new and returning aircraft will, weather permitting, take to the skies above us to thrill and enthral.

“There will be opportunities for visitors to get much closer to these incredible machines than during our regular opening times.

“We are ever mindful of our mission to ensure that the spirit, bravery and sacrifice of early aviation during the Great War is not forgotten. That is fundamental to everything offered here.”

The event is on Sunday, May 28 from 10am to 4pm.

Tickets must be purchased prior to the event and will not be sold at the gate on the day.
