A MAN has been left with serious injuries after an attack in Maldon.

Emergency services were called to Regatta Way shortly before 3.50pm on Monday to reports of a disturbance.

On arrival, police found a man had been assaulted, suffering serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A baseball bat was recovered from the scene and officers arrested a man, aged 42, from Kent, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police say there were a number of witnesses as the incident took place in public.

Officers are investigating a number of lines of inquiry to locate a second suspect who is believed to be involved.

It is believed that it was an isolated incident that has no wider threat to people in the area.

Officers say they are “continuing to conduct patrols in the area and continue to safeguard the victim”.

The victim received treatment from East of England Ambulance Service paramedics and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The victim is continuing to receive hospital treatment for his injuries.

Police are investigating the incident and the probe is said to be moving quickly.

Det Insp Andy Drake said: “Our investigation into this incident is moving at pace and we are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to locate a second suspect.

"This incident occurred in a public location with a number of witnesses and there will rightly be a level of concern shared by all within the community.

"We do believe this was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 3.52pm on Monday, April 24, with reports of an assault on Regatta Way in Maldon.

“An ambulance was sent to the scene and transported an adult man to hospital for treatment.”
