A WARNING has been issued after police stopped sports car drivers using the A13 at Basildon as a racetrack.

A post from the Essex Police – Basildon team revealed two Lamborghini Urus and a Rolls Royce Cullinan were spotted racing at the ‘5 Bells’ junction at around 7pm on Saturday.

They continued onto the A130, leaving the major road at Rawreth and driving through South Woodham Ferrers to Cold Norton.

They were then stopped and “dealt with” by officers.

A spokesman for the team urged any witnesses or anyone with footage of the chase to get in touch.

He said: “If you witnessed this then please get in touch with Sgt 13 Willsher from our South Roads Policing Unit at 13@essex.police.uk.

“We are especially keen to speak to anyone who has dashcam or other video footage.

“We will never tolerate people using public roads as racetracks - all drivers have been issued with interim section 59 warnings whilst case papers are prepared.”

A warning under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 means an officer has reasonable grounds to believe that the driver has driven in an anti-social manner.
