An appeal is ongoing for witnesses to come forward as well as the victim who was approached from behind and punched once in the face, causing him to fall to the ground 

 

A YOUNG man was allegedly approached from behind and punched in the face in Chelmsford.

The victim, believed be in his late teens or early 20s, was walking in Tindal Street towards the High Street when he was punched in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police are appealing for the public’s help identifying the man photographed in connection with the assault.

They also hope to get in contact with the victim to make sure he is okay.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward.

The incident happened in Tindal Street, Chelmsford, at around 2.50am on Saturday, January 28.

Investigating officer Insp James Barnacle, of the Chelmsford and Maldon local policing team, said: “The victim, a young man, possibly late teens or early 20s, was walking along Tindal Street towards the High Street when he was approached from behind.

“He was punched once to the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

“We believe that his friends who were walking near him may have witnessed the assault and we’d like them to get in touch. It’s possible others also saw what happened.

“We’d also like the victim to make contact with us so that we can be assured that he is okay and we can establish all the facts that led up to the assault.”
