PLANS have been approved for an area of a public park to be used for seasonal attractions.

Maldon's Promenade Park will have a defined area for temporary structures to support events from April to October.

The plans submitted by Maldon District Council detail structures which include gazebos, tents, shepherd huts or small motorized vehicles.

The application is for two areas within the Valley Adventure Play area, one between the public conveniences and the Splash Park and three next to the eastern half of the marine lake.

The application states “the kiosks would not replicate the goods currently available to purchase within the park.

Maldon Town Council is against the plans due to concerns the units will be “detrimental to the existing, established” businesses.

A spokesman for the town council said: “The town council recommends refusal of this application as it is considered that several of the proposed concessions are not in keeping and are out of character with the town’s historic Victorian Promenade Park.

“No detailed specifications of the proposed units have been provided or a commitment to support local businesses and, therefore, the proposal would be detrimental to the existing, established Promenade Park businesses.”
