A FOOTBALL team that gives players with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the sport has received a generous donation.

The Maldon Saints Soccability team received a large donation from the ladies section of the Potters Resort Five Lakes Golf Club.

A cheque for £1,183 was presented to the club by Tina and Dave Hickey from the golf club.

Maldon Saints was founded in 1970 as a youth team and now has an adult team, 13 mini soccer and youth teams, a girls team and a Soccability programme.

The Soccability programme is available to players with a disability who want to get involved in football.

The club is part of the Essex FA Soccability League, and plays against other teams in the county.

The Maldon Saints Soccability Pumas are currently second in the league table and the Maldon Saints Soccability Tigers are sixth in the league.

Mr Hickey said: “Maldon Saints Soccability has meant so much to the Hickey family, especially our son James, which is why we put them forward to receive the donation.”

Chairman Simon Gray said: “We are very lucky to have such a great Soccability team of which we are very proud.

“This kind of donation is incredible and will be used to support the Maldon Saints Soccability team’s activities.”
