PLANS have been submitted for a development of more than 300 homes in Burnham.

The application outlines plans for 250 homes and 54 more for keyworkers or NHS accommodation near Mangapps Railway Museum.

The site is known as Railway Field, on the west side of B1021 Southminster Road and north of Mangapps Railway Museum.

There are currently about 50 objections to the plans.

Developers say they have looked at properties in the area to maintain the character of Burnham in the development.

There will be a total of 592 parking spaces for residents on the almost 45-acre site.

There will be market housing and social, affordable or intermediate rent on the site.

A total of 140 market homes are proposed, with 20 being two-bedroom, 64 three-bedroom and 56 four or more bedroom homes.

There are plans for 16 flats or maisonettes, with ten being one-bedroom, three two-bedroom and three three-bedroom.

A total of 94 social, affordable or intermediate rent homes are proposed, with ten being one-bedroom homes, 65 two-bedrooms, 15 three-bedrooms and four, four or more-bedroom homes.

There are 54 one-bedroom social, affordable or intermediate-rent homes proposed.

The application also looks to develop 990 square metres of internal floor space to be used as shops.

Burnham town councillors have recommended the plans are refused.

In response to the application, town clerk Nichola Payne said: “Burnham town councillors recommend refusal of this planning application due to overdevelopment, outside of development area, lack of infrastructure and lack of amenity."

The town council says neighbouring landowners have not given permission for access land, and there is inaccuracy of information on decision making.

The council says the proposals are not in line with local development plan policies and there are no bungalows.

The railway station and Co-op food store are noted as being located within walking distance of the site, along with a newsagent, post office, shops, pharmacy, pub, hot food takeaway and more.

The site is more than a mile from the shops on the map.

Maldon District Council will have the final say on the plans.
