A GROUP of residents hope to install as many critical 'blood kits' in Heybridge and the surrounding areas as possible in the hopes of saving lives.

The Heybridge Residents' Association is hosting a fish and chip evening to raise money for the Liam Taylor Legacy.

The money will go towards the installation of critical bleed control kits in Heybridge.

The Liam Taylor Legacy was launched by the family of Liam Taylor, 20, who was stabbed to death outside the Rose and Crown pub in Writtle in 2020.

The bleed control kits cost £104 and contain gloves, scissors, a foil blanket, a mouth guard for giving CPR, a trauma dressing, a chest seal, bandages and a tourniquet.

The fish and chip shop fundraiser is on Tuesday, February 28, at 7pm at the Prince of Wales pub in Great Totham.

Tickets cost £15 per person, which includes fish and chips, crumble for dessert and tea and coffee.

Heybridge Residents' Association chairman Ashley Jones said: “We are having a fundraiser and a big raffle to raise money for critical blood kits.

“We are trying to get people to buy a ticket so we can raise as much money as we can.

“All the money will be given to Julie Taylor for the blood bags.”

He added: “Once a month we have a community meeting and we have various charities that we could give to.

“Blood kits are something that people don’t do a lot for, so we thought we could do it.

“To save a life is great. There is too much knife crime on the streets and we think more can be done.

“If we can do our bit and get as many kits as we can then hopefully we can save a life - that’s what it's all about.

“The goal is endless because the more we can raise, the more kits we can have.

“If people can’t make it for the fundraiser, they can still donate by calling the telephone number.”
