AN arrest has been made in Maldon after a driver was stopped for allegedly driving while more than two times over the drink drive limit.

Essex Police officers from the Maldon Town Team arrested an individual in the evening on Friday after a roadside test revealed they had 89 micrograms of alcohol in their breath.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Following an evidential sample and a search of the individual, a locking knife was seized.

Police have charged the person for drunk driving and for being in possession of a bladed or pointed article in a public place.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The Maldon Town Team want all areas in the district to be safe. We also want the Maldon High Street to be safe from any dangers.

“That includes people driving whilst drunk.

“Officers from the team have arrested an individual today for driving whilst over the prescribed limit.

“They blew 89 at the roadside, with the legal limit being 35.

“An evidential sample will be obtained and if they are still over the drink drive limit, they will be charged.

“Individuals convicted for drink or drug driving can expect lengthy driving bans and financial fines. Repeat offenders can expect disqualification and custodial sentences.”

In an update, the spokesman said: “We also searched this individual and discovered a locking knife on them. Locking knives are illegal to possess in public without a lawful excuse.

“As a result, we will be formally charging this individual for drink driving and being in possession of a bladed or pointed article in a public place.
