A DUO arrested in connection with an investigation into modern slavery in Essex remain under investigation, the police have said.
Officers made four arrests, seized £20,000 in cash and safeguarded 12 people and nine dogs at addresses in Tiptree and Wickford in December 2021.
Early hours police warrants were executed on December 14 in Kelvedon Road, Tiptree, and Hovefields Avenue, Wickford.
Two men, aged 42 and 43-years-old, remain under investigation as police inquiries continue, it has been confirmed.
Both were arrested on suspicion of modern slavery offences.
The 43-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of assault.
Another pair who were arrested, aged 35 and 76-years-old, have been told they will face no charges.
Detective Chief Inspector Justin Beacher said at the time: “Today’s arrests have been the result of an intelligence-led operation into modern slavery.
“It’s a term most people are not familiar with, but sadly it means that some people do not have the freedom to make their own life-choices.
“Modern slavery has no place in Essex and will not be tolerated.
“Anyone who participates in this cruel, inhumane practice should know that we will arrest them and bring them to justice.”
