ANOTHER bank is set to join the growing list of closed branches in Maldon.

The Halifax has been confirmed it is shutting its High Streetbranch this summer.

The branch is currently open five days a week from 9am to 3pm.

Halifax, which is part of the Lloyds Banking Group, said 71 per cent of personal customers already use other ways of banking, such as over the phone or internet banking, as well as other branches.

The banking company says visitors to the branch have fallen in recent years.

The branch has internal and external cash machines, a paying-in machine, counter service, travel money and digital assistance services.

It also offers accessibility services including a talking cash machine, a hearing induction loop available, support for 'sunflower' lanyard wearers, assistance dogs are welcome and longer appointments can be requested.

The nearest Halifax bank will be six miles away at The Newlands in Witham, but that branch does not offer counter service.

The nearest branch with counter service is a ten-mile drive from Maldon High Street in Chelmsford.

Halifax has confirmed the Maldon branch will be closing on Monday, June 5.

It will join Barclays, which shut in August last year, Lloyds, which closed in February last year and HSBC, which shut its doors in July 2021.

The only remaining banks in Maldon will be NatWest and Santander.

Halifax sats the Post Office, which is a four-minute walk away at 9-10 King George's Place, offers personal and business customers everyday banking services, access to cash, paying in of cheques and more.

There are also nine free-to-use ATMs within one mile of the closing branch.

A Halifax spokesman said: “Visits to our Maldon branch have fallen over recent years, as many customers now choose to bank in different ways.

“When the branch closes in June, customers can use the local post office for everyday banking which is a short walk away, access cash at the nearby free-to-use ATMs, alongside other ways to bank such as over the phone and online."
