A COUPLE have been reunited in their family home of more than 50 years after cancer treatments tore them apart.

Tiptree couple Andrew, 86, and Kathleen Brown, 83, are “delighted” to be back together after months of hospital and nursing home care.

Andrew was diagnosed with a cancerous sarcoma in 2021 and after having chemotherapy he was able to have an operation to remove the tumour last year.

Whilst recovering, Andrew developed septicaemia in the wound and was admitted to hospital again.

Due to him requiring a level of care which couldn’t be supported at home, he had to be put in a nursing home.

He wanted to be back at home and after lots of searching, Kathleen found a care company which could support them in their home.

Mrs Brown said: “I tried many care agencies, but they couldn’t offer the level of at home care that Andrew needed.

“We were left with no choice but to go down the residential care route.

“The home was great, but it wasn’t right for him - it was a home but it wasn’t his home.

“We had previously had care from ECL when Andrew was discharged from hospital so I got back in touch to see if they could help.

“We were fortunate that they were just trialing their private pay option, ECL Care Solutions, who said they could do it.

“I was delighted because it meant that at long last he could come home. They’ve been an absolute godsend.”

The service said it was proud to have been able to help them get back in the comfort of their own home together.

Sarah Parry, ECL Care Solutions independence advisor and team manager said: “What we were able to do for Andrew is a big deal.

“We’ve improved his quality of life; we’ve got him back at home where he wants to be.

“That’s what this service is about, making it possible for people to stay longer in their own homes.

“Helping them to retain their independence for as long as possible.

“We’re really proud of what we were able to do for Karen and Andrew, we reversed the situation for them which is just fantastic.”
