A SERVICE which sprung into action in a Tiptree woman’s kitchen is looking for more volunteers ahead of its official opening.

The Tiptree community fridge has confirmed it will be based at Unit 40, 20 Station Road, Tiptree.

The fridge provides a place for residents to donate their extra food to reduce the amount going to waste whilst giving others access to free food that they may be struggling to afford.

The group is volunteer-led and is looking for more people to help.

Paula Kirby, a volunteer for the Tiptree community Fridge, said: “We will soon be opening our fridge but we can only do this with your help.

“We need to get a rota in place with everyone's availability to help as soon as possible.

“If you're interested in signing up can you please send me your availability from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 7pm.

“We initially intend to start off Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm with a view to extending once we get more established.

“I appreciate that not everyone will be able to commit to the same hours every week but we need a starting point for now at least and then as things progress we can start allocating tasks.”
