A MAGICAL evening of New Orleans style piano music is being held on a historic barge for the public to enjoy.
A show titled the New Orleans Riverboat Revue will be hosted by pianist and singer Dale Storr, one of the UK’s leading exponents of New Orleans piano styles.
The evening of entertainment will be held on 114-year-old Thames sailing barge Hydrogen, moored at Maldon’s historic Hythe Quay.
Mr Storr will be performing different styles of piano and telling stories of music, musicians and culture in New Orleans.
He has played the piano with many blues stars from the UK and America, and began his solo career in 2008.
He has been touring the UK all year, staging solo shows as well as performing at blues festivals.
A spokesman for the event said: “From 1920s stride and boogie-woogie through the hip blues of Dr John and Allen Toussaint, the tight funk of Jon Cleary and the diverse classical stylings of tragic genius James Booker, the Sheffield-based musician not only plays the music - he also tells amazing, colourful tales around the music, musicians and culture of New Orleans with a singular passion.

“If you’ve ever fancied spending time in the Big Easy, this is probably the next best thing.
“The beautiful old oak-hulled Thames barge, Hydrogen, based at Hythe Quay in Maldon might not be quite the same as the traditional Mississippi steamboat, but its saloon provides a perfect, intimate setting to transport the audience on a musical journey to another town with a mighty river at its heart.”
The show is on Saturday, November 26. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.
