HUNDREDS of handmade poppies have been donated by members of the public to be used in a beautiful church display for Remembrance Day.
Kay Townsend, the special designer who produces window displays for All Saints Church Creeksea, asked the public for knitted poppies to create a Remembrance display.
She got more than she bargained for when 500 arrived, made by supporters of the church.
The church hopes lots of people will visit to see the display.
Vera Wadman, the priest in charge at All Saints Church, said: “When she asked for knitted poppies to create a display for Remembrance Day she hoped she'd receive at least 200.
“Imagine her surprise when almost 500 arrived.
“They came from members of the congregation, their friends and their relatives from far and wide.
“Kay rose to the challenge and not only created the fall of poppies from the cross in the pulpit but also created window displays of poppies seemingly floating on air.
“Then on the door of the church, she placed a beautiful laurel and poppy wreath.
“It’s an overwhelming show of support for the men and women who died in the war.
“It shows how seriously people take the idea of Remembrance Sunday and what it means to the nation.

“We are proud as a church to show the display.”
The church is open on Saturday from 10.30am to 3.30pm and on Sunday for its 8.30am service.
A special service is also being held called Creeksea Remembers on Sunday at 6pm.
