A SKATING club is delighted after top performances in their competitive season saw them scoop more than 80 medals.

Essex Skating Club performed phenomenally well in the British Inline Speed Skating Championships 2022 season.

The skaters competed in the British indoor, outdoor and marathon championships as well as touring the country to compete in various club races.

They finished the season triumphant with 82 British Championship medals including 29 golds, 31 silvers and 22 bronze medals.

Two of the team claimed the sought-after title of best all-round skater in their age category by accumulating the most points across the Championships.

Sophie Debenham from South Woodham Ferrers and Rebecca Vale from Maldon were crowned Absolute British Champions in the Cadet Girls and Youth Girls categories.

At the British Indoor Championships in March Sophie Cook, also from South Woodham Ferrers, put on a strong performance to secure the title of the Cadet Girls British Indoor Champion whilst Katie Sweeting from Heybridge secured the title of Junior Girls Champion in her first championship racing season.

The Outdoor Championships in Enfield saw Sophie Debenham win the title of Cadet Girls Outdoor Champion whilst Rebecca Vale secured the title for Youth Girls.

The team also put on a strong performance at the British Marathon Championships with Sophie Debenham and Jessica Markey both bringing home the title for Cadet Girls and Youth Girls respectively.

A further impressive haul of medals were bought home by Presley Hughes from South Woodham Ferrers, Ella Bennett from Great Totham, Buddy Dilger and Alfie Pittock from Ipswich, Jon Morrison of Wickford, Onika Dan King from Danbury and Elijah Lloyd from Heybridge.

Head Coach Jon Morrison said: “I am so proud of the team. They have trained so hard this season and it has really paid off in the results.

“Having our new outdoor training ground at the Oval in Maldon has really helped with our fitness so we would really like to thank CML Microsystems for allowing us to train there”.
