The following are some of the matters discussed at the council meeting held on March 17.

Basket ball pitch: work is almost completed on the pitch in Jubilee Field - the net has to be installed and white lines painted.

Prescriptions from Broomfield Hospital: Cllr Taylor recently accompanied a representative from the local Primary Care Trust around the village, highlighting some of the problems St Lawrence has in terms of health care.

One of the issues Cllr Taylor raised was that on several occasions recently, where residents had had to attend Broomfield hospital for out-of-ours treatment, they were given prescriptions for their condition, but then told they would have to have them dispensed at a local chemist.

New nuclear power station: Cllr Betts reported on a meeting he had attended recently where British Energy gave details of plans they were submitting for a new nuclear power station to be built at Bradwell.

The proposal is for a 260 Megawatt pressurised water reactor, with construction to begin within approximately five years.

When fully commissioned the station would employ 1,500 people.

They are also proposing to operate an apprenticeship scheme.

Next meeting: The next meeting of the council will be on Monday, April 28 at 7.30pm.
